Digitization of the National Museum in Gdańsk’s Collections

Museum collections are increasingly being presented not only in exhibition spaces but also in the digital realm. Thanks to digitization, they can be made more widely accessible to the public, researchers, educators, and anyone interested in culture, regardless of their location.

In this area, we are supporting the National Museum in Gdańsk in preparing the project “Digitization and Digital Access to the Collections of the National Museum in Gdańsk.” The project is planned under FERC Measure 2.3 “Digital Accessibility and Reuse of Information,” funded by the European Funds for Digital Development 2021–2027 program. Our role focuses on preparing the application documentation necessary to apply for funding.

This includes, among other things, analyzing previous project materials, adapting the concept to the call for proposals’ requirements, developing a feasibility study, preparing the required attachments, and providing support for the IT Project Scope Description. In projects involving the digital provision of resources, consistency between the substantive value of the collections, user needs, technological solutions, and the requirements of the funding program is particularly important. Therefore, the work also includes refining the parameters regarding target groups, metrics, scope, timeline, budget, risk analysis, and milestones.

The collaboration with the National Museum in Gdańsk is an example of a project in which digital transformation serves not only to streamline processes but, above all, to make knowledge, art, and heritage more widely accessible.
