Sustainable urban mobility in Wałbrzych

The municipality of Wałbrzych is currently implementing a project entitled "Development of sustainable urban mobility through the construction of transport hubs and P&R facilities with accompanying infrastructure and the expansion of the ITS system in the municipalities of the Wałbrzych Agglomeration – Wałbrzych, Boguszów Gorce, Czarny Bór, Dobromierz, Głuszyca, Jedlina-Zdrój, Mieroszów, Szczawno-Zdrój, Stare Bogaczowice, Walim, Świebodzice.

As part of this project, our task is to develop functional and utility programs (PFU) covering a wide range of activities that have a direct impact on improving traffic organization and travel comfort in the agglomeration.

A functional and utility program is a document that specifies in detail the requirements and expectations for a planned investment. It is used to precisely describe the functions and technical parameters of the planned infrastructure or system in order to enable its design, implementation, and subsequent maintenance in a manner consistent with user needs and applicable standards.

In the case of this project, the functional and utility programs we are developing include:

  1. delivery and installation of variable message signs (VMS) with power connections, enabling dynamic information for drivers about traffic conditions and parking space availability.
  2. synchronisation of traffic lights with connection and integration with the existing ITS system in the Traffic Control and Video Monitoring Centre (CSRiMW), which will allow for smoother traffic flow and increased safety in the areas covered by the project.

The Intelligent Transport System is a modern infrastructure that supports real-time urban traffic management. ITS allows for the monitoring and control of vehicle traffic, optimisation of traffic light timing, and informing drivers about traffic incidents, available parking spaces and alternative routes.

The expansion of the ITS system as part of this project will contribute to improving the comfort, safety, and efficiency of transport in the agglomeration.
